Stakeholders to have say in motor circuit rezoning

Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit looks to develop anoth 265 acres of its property

An application from the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit for further development at its facility will see input from numerous stakeholders.

The VIMC is seeking rezoning from the Municipality of North Cowichan to allow for an expansion of the facility into approximately 265 acres of its land on the Cowichan Valley Highway.

At North Cowichan’s council meeting on Nov. 1, council decided to refer the rezoning application to the City of Duncan, Cowichan Valley Regional District, Cowichan Tribes, School District 79, the municipality’s environmental advisory committee and the Sahtlam Neighbourhood Association for their input.

The organizations will have 60 days to respond to the request.

As well, council also decided to have staff draft a report with information, analysis, and recommendations on the application from the VIMC to North Cowichan’s community planning advisory committee for its review and comments, with direction that the committee not receive public input or representations as part of its review.
