Nanaimo school board trustees have no interest in shaking up their leadership.
Steve Rae and Stephanie Higginson were elected as chairman and vice-chairwoman by acclamation during a school board meeting on Wednesday.
Rae said he’s honoured and proud of being elected as chairman, a position he’s held since the start of his term in 2014.
“We’ve done a lot of good things in our first three years and look forward to continuing doing them in our last year,” he said. “I’m honoured that my fellow board members see that I have the qualities to continue to serve as chair and I won’t let them down.”
He said there have been difficult decisions in the trustees’ first three years, but said hopefully that’s behind them now and they can move the district in a positive direction, and that relationships within the district are better. He also said there are things the board would like to continue to move the dial on, like fostering reconciliation.
“The relationships with our union partners, our First Nation partners are better and stronger than they’ve been in the past and we are going to continue to work at that and try to be a good example and lead the district in a positive way for the rest of our term.”
Board elections take place annually. Higginson has also held her position since the last local election.
Natasha Bob has been elected chairwoman of the education committee with Bill Robinson as vice-chairman. Scott Kimler is the chairman of the business committee and Jeff Solomon is vice-chairman.
Bob is also the B.C. School Trustees Association councillor with Jamie Brennan as her alternate.
