Storm-drain replacement set for Sherman Road

Old infrastructure reaching end of its life

  • Sep. 3, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Residents in the Sherman Road area are asked to be aware of a storm-main replacement project that will begin in late August and continue until the end of September, which may snarl traffic.

The project will replace a section of storm main between the Sherman Road soccer field parking lot and the east end of the Municipality of North Cowichan’s property where the Duncan Curling Club is situated.

Signs will be placed in the area in advance of the project’s start to provide notice to the neighbourhood.

Residents are requested to bear with some limited traffic interruptions during the storm-main replacement.

This project will require removal of approximately four trees on the municipally-owned Duncan Curling Club property.

These trees are located along the alignment of the new storm main at the east end of the project.

The need to replace this storm drain was identified in 2017 when North Cowichan replaced the storm drains and added sidewalks on the south side of Sherman Road.

Much of the underground infrastructure in this area is reaching the end of its life cycle, and the municipality is replacing it in phases.
