Streams and rivers in the Shuswap are expected to rise over the next couple of days as wet weather returns to the region.
The province’s River Forecast Centre has issued a High Stream Flow Advisory for the Shuswap, with stream and river levels expected to rise rapidly around Sicamous, Salmon Arm, Enderby and surrounding areas.
The only flood watch in effect is for the Salmon River.
The River Forecast Centre warning was issued early Wednesday, May 10, around the same time Environment Canada issued a special weather alert for the Shuswap, with rain and thunderstorms expected to reach Southern Interior on Thursday.
“This weather situation, combined with spring snow melt, will lead to rising river levels and may increase the risk of flooding,” warns Environment Canada. “Quickly flowing water and the adjacent riverbanks are potentially unsafe. Don’t approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts, and keep away from creek and river banks.”
