An internationally recognized public speaker on the topics of social media awareness and social networking will be coming back to the district Thursday to speak to children, parents and teachers.
Jesse Miller of Mediated Reality, has spoken in the district before, and during the 2011/2012 school year his awareness programs reached over 200,000 students.
“He’s actually quite entertaining to listen to, he’s quite a fun guy and he’s got the most current research,” said director of instruction for the district Gillian Wilson.
Miller will talk about the positive and negative aspects of social media on children, and its effects on development. He’ll also explain the implications of sending and posting pictures to Grade 8 students in the district.
Miller will be speaking to Grade 8 students Thursday and then a free presentation for any parent or guardian in the district is at 7 p.m. at Kwalicum Secondary School called Youth and Mobile Technology Parenting in the Social Media Generation.
