For the third year, Vanderhoof Success By 6® has received funding from the Ministry of Children and Family Development via the “Children First Initiative”.
The objectives of Children First are to increase community capacity, increase service delivery effectiveness, engage “hard to reach” families, increase opportunities for early identification and screening, and improve outcomes for children and families.
Completion of a straightforward application is required. The applications, due by September 30, will be reviewed by a selection committee made up of members of the local Success By 6 committee.
Applications are available for pick-up at the public library (230 E. Stewart St.). They can also be accessed on-line by emailing a request to the Success By 6® coordinator, Wendy Clement at wendy44@telus.net.
Success By 6 in B.C. is a joint initiative of the United Way, Credit Unions of BC, the BC Government, and community leaders. The initiative is dedicated to ensuring that children ages 0 to 6 have access to programs that support their healthy growth and development.
Locally Success By 6 works to champion, develop, support and implement our community’s early childhood projects, plans and initiatives. In 2010/11 Success By 6 supported many different initiatives including the Public Library (Books for Babies), SD91 (Roots of Empathy program and You Make the Difference), Nechako Valley Community Services Society (Language Fun Storytime), the CNC Early Intervention Team (Partnerships in Communication Workshop series and Sensory Modulation equipment) Neighbourlink (Best Moms and Dads Program), Vanderhoof’s First Responders (Bike Rodeo) and the District of Vanderhoof (funding contribution towards the Ferland Spray Park). Success By 6 also partnered with the District and SD 91 to host the Ready Set Learn Children’s Fun Fair in May.
Participation on the committee is open to anyone interested in early childhood development.
The existing group serves the communities of Vanderhoof and Saik’uz and includes parents, representatives from School District 91, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Nechako Valley Community Services Society, Public Library, Northern Health, Carrier Sekani Family Services, College of New Caledonia Early Intervention Team, the ECE community and the District of Vanderhoof.
