Summer road projects results in road closure

Fairview Road in Esquimalt will be closed from Aug. 11 to Sept. 19

Esquimalt is set for two road projects this month, including a full road closure on Fairview Road from Aug. 11 to Sept. 19.

The Fairview Road project is sparked by “poor conditions of infrastructure” along the roadway. Improvements include a new sidewalk along the eastern side of the road, new drains and manhole upgrades, new railway tracks and road markings and line painting.

The road closure will affect all directions of the intersection at Fairview Road and Devonshire Road.

Joffre Street will also be seeing minor upgrades as road crews replace the sidewalk on the western side of the street, from 546 Joffre St. to Lyall Street.

The project is slated to begin in early August and expected to take four to six weeks to complete, as water meters will need to be relocated prior to construction.

A full road closure map of the Fairview Road project is available online at Esquimalt.ca. Any residents or businesses affected by construction will be notified by the contractor prior to commencement.
