It has been a difficult year for Summerland businesses, but Ron Kubek, president of the Summerland Chamber of Commerce is optimistic about the future.
He said while businesses have had to face challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many rose to the challenge, pivoted and were able to cope.

“Many of our members did well in spite of the fact,” he said. “We are up over last year considerably.”
Kubek has met with dozens of Summerland business owners. He said the businesses in the community have done all they could to keep going during the pandemic.
“Businesses are the backbone of the community,” he said, adding his gratitude to business owners and staff who kept their doors open to provide goods and services to the community during the pandemic.
The chamber is facing some changes for the year ahead. These include a new agreement with the municipality of Summerland, as well as the departure of David Hull, executive director of the chamber.
Hull left his position in December.
“He has moved on to different endeavours,” Kubek said.
