Summerland’s municipal council has extended its permissive tax exemptions for 2017 to 2020 for an additional year.
The exemptions cover nine places of worship and 11 other non-profit organizations in the community.

The estimated value of the permissive tax exemptions for the places of worship comes to a total of $38,261.95 while the estimated value of the exemptions for the other non-profit organizations is $132,081.69, for a total of $170,343.64.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a comprehensive review of permissive tax exemption submissions would be more difficult than usual this year. This is because of the continued closure of facilities, reduced staffing levels and other factors.
As a result, municipal staff asked for a one-yer extension of the permissive tax exemptions.
Council will reinstate its four-year review and approval cycle for the 2022 to 2025 taxation years.
