Summerland’s municipal council and staff are discussing the community’s 2019 budget, but details will not be available until early next month.
Linda Tynan, chief administrative officer for the municipality, said members of council have had some meetings and are reviewing financial information.
“They’re doing a thorough review given it’s the first year of their term,” Tynan said.
A budget open house will be held on Wednesday, April 3.
The municipality is working on some significant projects this year, including trails in Giant’s Head Mountain Park, the solar project, repairing previous flood damage at the waterfront, completion of the skate park and work on the Summerland Arts and Cultural Centre.
At present, council is looking at a status quo budget and discussions about tax rates have not yet come up, Tynan said.
In past years, taxes in Summerland have increased. In 2016, the increase was three per cent and in 2017 it was four per cent. The 2018 budget had a 2.75 per cent tax increase.
