The municipality of Summerland applying for provincial funding for the Eneas Creek Flood Mitigation Plan.
The funding application, for $120,000, is through the Union of B.C. Municipalities Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
Eneas Creek in Summerland is a natural drainage corridor. The municipality has worked on improvements to the creek following the 2018 flooding.
The municipality has submitted an application for disaster financial assistance for the creek. This is for $720,000 in project work, with $194,000 to come from disaster financial assistance. The remainder of the money is to come from the municipality.
The flood mitigation plan, estimated at $120,000, is not included in the 2021 to 2025 financial plan.
If the application is successful, the funding would come entirely from the grant funding. Otherwise, the project will come back for consideration during next year’s budget deliberations.
