Sun shines on May Day parade

There were between 180 and 190 participants in this year’s May Day parade

There were between 180 and 190 participants in this year’s May Day parade in Clearwater, organizers report. Total number of floats was 13.

First place for business floats went to Clearwater Buy-Low, followed by Canfor in second spot and Home Hardware in third.

North Thompson Aboriginal Centre came first in clubs and organizations, followed by Michif Historical and Cultural Preservation Society. Third place went to Royal Canadian Legion.

In the Classic Cars category, first place went to Henry Werkman for his 1934 International pickup. Second place was taken by Larry Tucker and his 1956 ID. Barb and Pete Pelton’s 1946 green truck took third.

Barb Pennell’s clown took first spot for individuals. Second went to Jack Schaffer, while third was taken by Peter Palrom.

In the horse category, Ted Schulz Horsemanship took first and Wells Gray Riders drill team came second.

Clearwater Rotary Club organized the parade, with help from District of Clearwater, Thompson-Nicola Regional District, Buy-Low, On Call Services as well as numerous volunteers.

Balls Deep won the 12-team May Day slow-pitch tournament, with Pounders in second place.
