Sunnybrae evacuation order lifted for two properties

The occupants can return but must be ready to leave again if conditions change

The residents of two properties which have been evacuated since the Sunnybrae landslide on April 7 are now being permitted to return home, although they remain on evacuation alert.

The evacuation order issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District for four properties located at 4459, 4467, 4473 and 4487 Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road in the Shuswap has been partially rescinded.

The residents of 4459 and 4487 Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road are now permitted to return to their property but must be ready to evacuate again on short notice if site conditions change.

The occupants, including owners, tenants and visitors, of 4467 and 4473 Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road remain on evacuation order and can not return at this time.

People are advised to leave the area immediately if they observe a perceived increase or a sudden, drastic reduction in stream flow; a visible increase and sustained turbidity in the stream, audible noises that indicate earth movement, rolling rocks, channel material mobilization, or tree roots cracking or any other unusual earth movement or stream channel migration.
