Sunrise Road – I attended the CVRD meeting on Thursday, Jan. 22, concerning the rock festival [Rock of the Woods] promoters wanting to hold it in our neighbourhood again.
Instead of three days and 500 tickets they are increasing it to four days and 1,000 tickets.
This peaceful, quiet, rural neighbourhood was established in the early ’70s and many of us have lived here since then. We have worked our entire lives to be able to live in our homes on our beloved land with our gardens, orchards and woods. Sunrise Road is a dead-end, potholed road with hairpin corners and curves to get to it. No amount of talk will convince me that there isn’t the possibility of fire, as cigarette butts were all over the place.
The young people will get their alcohol and drugs in no matter what and will find areas in or out of bounds to do it. The promoters lengthy talk sounded too good to be true, and you know the saying, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
Many of the party-goers are young people and not from around here. They have no idea what it is like to own their own home, so they do not get why we are so passionate about safeguarding it. This rock festival needs to be in a place where there is safety for us and them.
