Support is pouring in for David Kampe’s final fundraising initiative for the Penticton Secondary School Bursary and Scholarship Foundation announced Monday morning.
Over the years, Kampe donated millions of dollars to support a wide range of community projects, including the new Penticton Regional Hospital tower that bears his name, prior to his death last week.

Peter Weeber, general manager of Peters Bros. Ltd., one of Kampe’s companies, released a statement from Kampe made earlier about the project.
“Our students will be our greatest success story and our ambassadors as they pursue their post-secondary dreams. However, the economic reality of many families in Penticton does not align with the growing costs of post-secondary education. We have a responsibility as a community to do whatever we can to support our students; they are our succession plan; they are our future.
“I have asked Peter Weeber to reach out to individuals and businesses to generate support for the Penticton Secondary Schools Foundation. Thank you for supporting our youth as they start the next chapter of their lives,” reads the message.
Established in 1984, the Penticton Secondary School Bursary and Scholarship Foundation receives hundreds of donations each year. The foundation, a registered charity, presents 250 awards annually, valued at just under $200,000, to the school’s graduating students.
In 2018, Kampe and Peters Brothers Paving made a combined donation of $195,000, made up of 30 $5,000 bursaries and 15 vocational awards of $3,000. That contribution effectively doubled the amount of support the foundation distributes each year.
Donations to the foundation can be made by calling 1-855-904-7033.
