While some areas of Metro Vancouver were hit hard by Friday’s snowfall, Surrey received a much lighter blow.
Residents of North Vancouver and Abbotsford were dealing with snow accumulations of 10 cm, but Surrey received just two centimeters, according to Environment Canada.
The snowfall was heaviest in the northern part of the city, which affected traffic. Accidents were reported on roads in City Centre and Newton, as well as Highways 1 and 17. There were no reports of injuries.
Eight private schools were shut down for the day, and Simon Fraser University (SFU) canceled all classes and exams scheduled for 3 p.m. or later at all three campuses, including SFU – Surrey. Students were asked not to go to any of the campuses.
Environment Canada revised its snowfall warning at 4 p.m. this evening, forecasting a further snowfall of two to four centimetres. The snow will turn to rain in the morning, as temperatures of three degrees are forecast for Saturday.
