SURREY — The man suspected of robbing a Surrey bank earlier this month has been caught.

Eric Kumar, a 25-year-old from Surrey, faces three counts of robbery and one count of use of an imitation firearm while committed an indictable offence.

The charges are in connection to a bank robbery on Aug. 10 at about 4 p.m. near the intersection of 120th Street and Nordel Way. The robber produced a weapon and threatened staff before fleeing the scene, police say.

Surrey RCMP thank the public and the media for their help in locating the suspect, whose picture was released by police after being obtained through surveillance cameras.

Following a new release, officers received information from the public allowing them to quickly locate the suspect in Abbotsford. Surrey RCMP’s Robbery Unit arrested Kumar on Aug. 18.

“Institutional robberies are not victimless crimes,” said Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann. “It can be a very traumatic incident for anyone involved.”

Kumar is currently in police custody pending his next court appearance.
