SURREY — City council sent an application to build a housing project on the Sunshine Ridge Baptist Church property back to staff Monday after Boundary Park residents called it “too dense.”

To approve the application would be “irresponsible,” resident Laurie Haliburton told city council. At issue, for residents, are the height and density of the proposal, as well as concerns about traffic.

“Three stories doesn’t conform with what’s being built south of 64th (Avenue),” said Haliburton. “It’s far too dense.”

A petition was presented that had been signed by 231 residents. Council sent the application back to staff to address resident concerns, and to “work with the developer and area residents to gain consensus.”

The proposal, as is, would see 38 townhouses built on the eastern portion of the church’s property at 6230 120th St.

Councillor Vera LeFranc told the Now, “the people have spoken,” adding, “hopefully they can work it out with the developer.”
