A Surrey man is facing several charges after Vancouver police say they found him at a gas station in possession of two live hand grenades.
Police also say they found other prohibited items inside his vehicle.
On Thursday (Sept. 22), at 7 p.m., Vancouver Police were called to an Esso station at the corner of Fraser Street and King Edward Avenue after a report of a man behaving suspiciously.
Officers spoke with Korey Collins, 33, and say they seized a set of brass knuckles from his pocket.
A subsequent search of his vehicle allegedly turned up throwing knives, a tactical vest and two hand grenades.
Members from the Vancouver Police Explosive Disposal Unit analyzed the devices with the use of a mobile robot. After X-rays allegedly determined they were active explosive devices, they were taken to a nearby field at Tupper Secondary where they were safely disposed of by way of a controlled detonation at around 3 a.m.
Collins has been charged with making or possessing explosives, possessing unauthorized firearm, possessing a firearm knowing it was unauthorized and possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes.
He was scheduled to appear in Vancouver Provincial Court on Monday.
