Surrey RCMP is seeking the public’s help in returning an antique pistol to its rightful owner.
Police said that in September 2015, an unknown person turned in an antique firearm to the detachment’s Guildford district office. Police then discovered the antique pistol may be quite valuable given its age. The last person to register this pistol is deceased and its true owner is unknown.
The pistol is described as a semi-automatic with a weathered black frame and slide. It is missing the pistol grip and special markings specific to the pistol have been obscured in the photo so that the rightful owner can identify it to police.
“My grandfather obtained several weapons during his time in the Canadian Army and World War II, and those guns still have sentimental value to my family,” said Corp. Scotty Schumann. “I’m sure it would have the same value to the owner, and given its age, it would also have value to a collector.”
Anyone with more information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS and quote file #2016-27178.
