WHALLEY — The Surrey school district is looking at ways to relieve overcrowding at Kwantlen Park Secondary.

The school is already 188 students over capacity and its estimated that will grow to almost one third by 2017.

The school district is asking for input from students and teachers on its range of options to resolve the issue, such as moving the “Inter-A” program from Kwantlen to either Queen Elizabeth or L.A. Matheson secondary schools.

Other options include boundary changes, such as moving Old Yale Road Elementary to feed into Queen Elizabeth or L.A. Matheson instead of Kwantlen.

“Channel Park is overcapacity and the district needs to make changes to make more effective use of our neighbouring secondary schools,” said Yrsa Jensen, assistant superintendent for Surrey’s schools in the north. “The district want to hear what students and parents think about the options to help staff develop a recommendation to the board.

The feedback – being accepted until May 9 – will be compiled in a report to the Surrey Board of Education.
