SURREY — A Surrey teen is dead after a tree fell on him at Clayton Heights Secondary school on Friday afternoon.

Surrey School District’s Doug Strachan told the Now the boy died of his injuries.

Surrey’s deputy Fire Chief Larry Thomas said it happened just before 2:30 p.m. at the school, which is located at 6965 188 St.

When first responders arrived, Thomas said, they found the boy in a wooded area near the school, with a tree on top of him.

The boy was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

At the time, a wind warning from Environment Canada was in effect.

The Surrey RCMP Youth Section is investigating along with the BC Coroner’s Service.

“The Surrey RCMP is asking people to stay out of wooded areas during periods of high wind,” says Corporal Scotty Schumann.
