SURREY — Surrey will receive a “HealthTech accelerator,” the first of its kind in Western Canada.
According to the provincial government, Innovation Boulevard’s HealthTech accelerator is the 15th technology accelerator in B.C. funded by the BC Innovation Council.
The goal of the accelerator, according to a government media release, “is to enable technology developers at various stages through entrepreneurs/executives in residence (EIRs), collaboration and support — specializing exclusively in the commercialization of medical devices, software and processes.”
Innovation Boulevard will build the accelerator out of a 6,000-square-foot facility by Simon Fraser University “where it will leverage its proximity to and connections with the Fraser Health Authority, universities and researchers.”
“There is no shortage of data in the health sector and we are going to see more data,” said Dr. Peter Payne, Innovation Board CEO.
Surrey MLA Amrik Virk, minister of technology, innovation and citizens’ services, said Innovation Boulevard “will bring together partners in the health tech sector to create new and powerful solutions to some of Canada’s biggest health challenges.”
