The B.C. government will commit $15.5 million to upgrade Surrey’s dikes to help protect the city from future floods.
The money will be used to upgrade the dike from 130th Street to Boliver Creek to provide protection along the Fraser River as well the 7.2-kilometre Colebrook Road dike from King George Boulevard to Delta.
The city of Surrey will contribute another $10 million to the project.
The protected area includes 776 hectares of land that includes a mix of industrial, commercial and residential properties with 3,600 residents. Nearly 700 ha of agricultural land will also be protected.
