Surveillance footage helped Oceanside RCMP apprehend a suspect who broke into the Qualicum Beach Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 early morning on Aug 1.
The RCMP received an alarm call at around 2 a.m. on Aug. 1. and went to investigate. They discovered the place had been broken into and liquor were stolen.
All the stolen items were found in a bush nearby and returned to the Legion, where staff members provided the police with high-quality surveillance footage.
Later in the day, the Oceanside RCMP while patrolling in Qualicum Beach located the suspect, who is well-known to police and arrested him without incident.
The suspect, who is a 23-year-old man of no fixed address was held in custody and appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court on August 2.
This is another case in which high quality surveillance footage was instrumental to the investigators and ultimately led to an arrest,
said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.
The suspect, Foreman said, acted alone.
