Survey asks Chilliwack citizens for input on city budget allocations

Taxpayers asked to weigh in with budget priorities to inform the 2021-2030 Financial Plan process

City council is working on the 2021 budget and seeking input from taxpayers.

While considering the elements of City of Chilliwack’s 2021-2030 Financial Plan, council has to strike a balance between the needs of the community and property tax rates, the survey document explains.

This year’s survey is geared to revealing priorities for city spending based on whether respondents support “the same, higher, or lower tax allocation” for municipal services like police, fire, transportation, parks or others.

“Your answers will tell council which services are most important to the community for funding considerations,” the online documents for the survey explain.

The survey is structured for respondents to punch in their property assessment value, followed by a pie chart showing how much of their tax bill goes to the respective city services.

The survey deadline is November 6, 2020, and it can be completed online or on paper.

A hard copy of the survey can be returned to City Hall either by mail or dropped off at: 8550 Young Rd. Chilliwack, BC V2P 8A4. c/o Finance Department. Email questions to budget@chilliwack.com
