A 35-year old Port Alberni man is facing eight charges including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in connection with a shooting on June 03.
Port Alberni Provincial Court prosecutor Todd Patola confirmed that David Bird, 35, also faces charges of use of a firearm to commit an offense; possessing a firearm while prohibited; possessing a firearm dangerous to the public; two counts of possessing a firearm without a license; and storing a firearm contrary to regulations.
Bird will remain in police custody and will appear in Port Alberni Provincial Court on June 12.
On June 03, police and emergency crews responded to a call to the 3900 block of Tenth Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. There, police found a 32-year old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body. The man was airlifted to Victoria where remains in serious condition, RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan said.
No suspect was arrested at the crime scene.
RCMP ERT members arrested Bird at 5 a.m. on June 04 at a residence in Sproat Lake.
Bird and the victim knew each other, and both were known to police, Allan said.
