Suspect charged in April 25 downtown disturbance in Williams Lake appears in court

A 26-year-old male faces several charges

The suspect arrested in connection with a disturbance at Diamonds and Dust Entertainment Lounge on April 25, 2019 appeared in Williams Lake Provincial Court on Wednesday, May 15.

Darcy John William, 26, faces one charge of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, one count of possessing an unauthorized non-firearm, one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm contrary to order and one count of breach of probation.

William was arrested after the Williams Lake RCMP investigated a report of a shooting at the 84 Oliver Street establishment.

In a written report received by city council at its Tuesday, May 14 regular meeting, Insp. Jeffy Pelley said police investigation revealed there was an altercation inside the premises and it was determined two males had been in possession of firearms.

“There were no injuries and this investigation remained a priority resulting in the arrest of a prolific offender,” Pelley noted. “The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP are working with Diamonds and Dust staff to ensure this establishment will be safe for local patrons.”

William’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29 in Williams Lake Provincial Court.

He remains in custody.

On Thursday, May 2, police and the Williams Lake Fire Department responded to a fire started in the back of Diamonds and Dust that was contained at the door in the alley side and quickly extinguished.
