Suspect in weekend robbery of Kelowna Subway shop nabbed

Police say the man fits the description of the robber and he gave a false name to police when arrested.

A suspect in the robbery of a Subway sandwich shop in Kelowna late Saturday night has been arrested.

On July 2, 2016 at 11:30 pm, the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Subway in the 500-block of Harvey Avenue.

Police said a man entered the shop, produced a knife and demanded money. The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Moments later officers attended the scene (and) located a man matching the suspect’s physical description near the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Richter Street,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP.

“The man was arrested without incident and money, believed to have been taken from the Subway, was found on his person.”

In a news realse issued Monday, there was no mention of a weapon found.

A 39-year-old Kelowna man was held in police custody over the weekend and was to appear in court on Monday.

He faces potential charges of robbery and obstruction of a police officer because he gave a false name.
