Suspect on camera stealing bikes in Oak Bay

Police news in brief: impaired drivers, domestic dispute, mental health act calls in Oak Bay

Oak Bay police are investigating after a suspect came prepared to steal bikes Sept. 26.

The first was reported stolen from a secured compound in the 2200-block of Cadboro Bay Road. A suspect was spotted on a surveillance video stealing the unlocked bicycle. The suspect was riding a bicycle with an attached trailer which carried the stolen bike. The bicycle is described as an 18 speed Timberline Bicycle with blue and white stripes.

The same day, a bicycle was reported stolen from the bike rack behind Oak Bay High School at 2121 Cadboro Bay Rd. The bicycle is described as a 21 speed, men’s silver/black Concord Hybrid bicycle with thick tires.

Arrest warrant issued for missed curfew

A warrant for arrest was issued after the Oak Bay Police Department conducted a curfew check on an accused who was in breach of his court order on Sept. 26. Local police do curfew checks to ensure people comply with conditions, particularly when a prolific or serious offender is involved. In this case, the accused was not home when police attended and a warrant was issued from the courts for his arrest.

Citizen call leads to psychiatric assessment

A female was taken to hospital under the mental health act after a call from a concerned citizen on Sept. 27. The female was described walking northbound on Willows Beach towards Cattle Point wearing a large dark jacket over a bikini. Police located the naked female in the secluded rocky outcrop on the north side of the beach where she was completely out of sight of people walking in the area. She was agitated and police were concerned for her well being so she was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to the hospital and held for a psychiatric assessment.

Power tools taken

On Sept. 28, the Oak Bay Police received a report of stolen power tools in the 1800 block of Foul Bay Road. The suspect entered an unlocked shed. A Ryobi circular saw, Black & Decker belt sander, drill, and several screwdrivers were reported stolen.

Impaired driver, impounded vehicle

On Sept. 28, the Oak Bay Police department received a report of an impaired driver at Cattle Point. Police attended and issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and and the driver’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Domestic dispute

On Sept. 29 the police attended a domestic dispute in the 2300 block of Florence Street. The investigation showed no assault occurred, but that a female at the scene had an outstanding warrant from the Victoria Police Department. She was delivered to the Victoria Police Department.
