Vernon RCMP continue to search for the suspects involved in a break-and-enter at a local bank Saturday morning.
At approximately 6:23 a.m., officers from the Vernon detachment were dispatched to a report of a break-and-enter to the Royal Bank, located at 2306 on Highway 6.
Nighthawk Security was on site when officers arrived. The front doors and windows of the bank were completely destroyed.
“The investigation has learned that a truck was driven backwards into the bank stopping just short of the front counter,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “The close-circuit TV in the bank has been able to capture still images of the two male suspects. The face of one of the males is partially concealed with a hoody. The male in passenger side of the vehicle was not able to get out of the vehicle as the folding curtain was up against the door and would not allow him out.”
The driver jumped over the counter and went behind; nothing appears to have been stolen.
Both men left in the vehicle, a 2000 Ford, F-250 white, extra cab. The vehicle was recovered stolen with considerable damage to it as short time later.
As the suspects drove away, a chain that was attached to the back of the vehicle swung wildly and smashed out windows of a business on the way past causing more damage.
“Our identification section was called to the scene to assist in collecting evidence of this senseless crime,” said Molendyk.
