A popular swimming hole is once again an option for keeping cool this summer.
Westwood Lake is safe for swimming, the City of Nanaimo announced Friday, Aug. 17.
The lake had been closed since Aug. 9 due to bacteria in the water, but Island Health has advised the city that E.coli levels in the lake have dropped to an acceptable level, according to a city press release.
“We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this closure. We are pleased to reopen Westwood Lake to residents and visitors for swimming and water activities,” said Damon Johnston, the city’s assistant manager of aquatics, in a press release.
Lifeguards will be on duty at the lake noon-6 p.m., seven days a week, until Sept. 3.
