Teachers voting on strike action

Teachers taking province-wide strike vote

Teachers across British Columbia are preparing to cast their ballots in the B.C. Teachers’ Federation strike vote scheduled to take place June 24, 27 and 28.

Cariboo-Chilcotin Teachers’ Association president Joan Erb says, “All indicators are the strike vote is a go.”

It’s being held to determine whether teachers will launch collective action with the start of the next school year in September.

Advance polls did take place on June 20, she notes, for those unable to attend any of the upcoming polls.

“It’s very unfortunate that we’ve come to the point where we have to ask our members to take a strike vote. It is very disappointing that we’ve made no progress at the bargaining table.”

The results of the vote are expected to be released on June 29.
