Teck has been talking up a small pile of accolades it received heading in to 2021, being named one of the most sustainable corporations, one of the best employers and being named to Bloomberg’s Gender Equality Index for the fourth straight year.
The company was named as one of the top 100 sustainable corporations for 2021 according to media and financial company Corporate Knights, which espouses what it calls ‘clean capitalism’.
CEO of Corporate Knights, Tony Heaps said that “Teck’s inclusion in the 2021 Global 100 list demonstrates the company’s focus on connecting environmental and social responsibility with strong business performance.
“Teck has embedded sustainability throughout its business strategy, and serves as a strong example of a responsible mining company leading the pivot to a low-carbon economy.”
CEO of Teck, Don Lindsay said that the company was “focused on responsibly producing the metals and minerals necessary for the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
In a release on the same day, Teck said it had also been named to Forbes Canada’s best employers 2021 list – a list formulated through a survey of more than 8,000 employees working at businesses with at least 500 employees around Canada.
“The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family,” said the release from Teck.
Teck ranked 263rd of 300 companies listed.
Of the 18 mining and chemical companies listed, Teck was 15th – ahead of major Australian compeditor, Rio Tinto.
The top mining company operating in Canada was the U.S.-headquartered Newmont, which ranked 35th overall.
