An 18-year-old Mission man was killed in a single vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Stave Lake Street, just north of Ferndale Avenue.
Witnesses told police the blue 1988 Mazda RX7 convertible was travelling northbound when it appeared to hit a bump on the road and crash into the ditch around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 23. The then vehicle rolled over several times.
“Speed is believed to be a factor,” said Mission RCMP Sgt. Shaun Wright, who noted witnesses reported seeing the vehicle pass another car at a high speed prior to crossing the road and hitting the ditch.
A doctor at the scene immediately determined the driver was deceased, added Wright. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle.
The coroner attended the scene and the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service assisted in the investigation.
The driver’s next of kin has been notified, but police are not releasing the his name.
