A 17-year-old girl was taken to hospital Thursday after being struck at the crossing of Front and Poplar streets.
Police say the driver, an 80-year-old man, went through a red light.
Off duty paramedics and Nelson fire department members witnessed the collision called an ambulance and rushed to the teen’s aid.
Police didn’t say how extensive her injuries were.
The driver has been charged with failing to stop for a red light and failing to yieled to a pedestrian.
Man arrested after break-in attempt
A 46-year-old man was arrested after an attempted break-in at a Nelson business early Wednesday.
Police say when the responded to the alarm, they spotted a man who ran away.
He was found a short distance away and arrested, and discovered to have drugs on him. He’ll be in court July 24 to answer to that charge.
His involvement in the break and enter and a theft from another nearby store are still under investigation.
Friendly visit turns into bust
Nelson police say they were “checking on the well-being” of a man at his home Thursday when they discovered a grow-op.
The man arrived hole while police were seeking a warrant to enter.
He was arrested and will appear in court July 24 on charges of drug production and trafficking.
Suspected drunk has near-miss with cruiser
Mistake number one: driving drunk. Mistake number two: nearly hitting a police cruiser.
Police say it happened around 3 a.m. Friday. A 34-year-old Nelson man neary hit a police car as he drove through an intersection.
He was stopped and found to be drunk.
He’ll be in court July 3 on impaired driving charges.
