Two male teens are facing numerous charges after they allegedly tried to steal a pair of $700 sunglasses in an Abbotsford mall and then tried to use a “conducted energy weapon” on the security guard who tried to stop them.
Police say that the pair entered a store in the Sevenoaks Shopping Centre Wednesday, and fled with a pair of expensive sunglasses after being confronted by staff. As they went to leave the mall, one of the teens tried to use a baton-like energy weapon on a mall security guard.
The weapon did not discharge, police say and the guard was uninjured.
Two teens matching the suspects’ descriptions were arrested shortly after. One is 17 years old. The other is 18. The sunglasses were recovered at the time.
Police say the pair face charges that include robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and failing to comply with previous court orders.
