In a region where rents are skyrocketing and it is increasingly difficult to find somewhere to call home, a group of Greater Victoria area renters are coming together to fight for tenant rights.

The launch of the Victoria Tenant Action Group will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at James Bay New Horizons.

The Victoria Tenant Action Group will support tenants who face displacement, educate renters about their rights, and use the power of their collective voices to fight for systemic change. The organizing group of tenants have all experienced displacement of some kind and hope to turn their negative experiences into positive action.

“Dealing with tenancy issues can be extremely emotional and isolating” says Emily Rogers, a legal advocate with Together Against Poverty Society. “At TAPS, we help people facing displacement, struggling in their tenancies, and searching for homes every single day.”
