Plans to build a trail at the RC Cotton Site next to Scout Island are moving ahead.
Coun. Scott Nelson said the tender has gone out for installing the pathway and the deadline for submissions is Thursday, May 23.
“It’s approximately 10 feet wide, with six inches of gravel going through the entire RC Cotton Site,” Nelson said during the roundtable at the end of Tuesday evening’s regular council meeting. “It will go from the water’s edge right to the bridge.”
A budget meeting is scheduled for May 21 where council will tackle a bridge design that will be the archway going across to Scout Island.
“The originally came in at $700,000,” Nelson added. “There is a grant tied to it and we managed to get it down to a point of about $450,000, however, 75 per cent of it is funded by a particular grant.”
Nelson said the archway will be a 200-foot span.
Originally council was thinking it would be closer to 80 feet.
“I just wanted to let the community know there are two big ticket items, specific to RC Cotton Site taking place,” Nelson said.

In September 2018 the City announced it had successfully acquired the RC Cotton Site at the head of Williams Lake from BC Rail.
The parcel of land is a 10-acre lot adjacent to Williams Lake Creek.
