The Wapiti Music Festival Society announced the cancellation of the tenth anniversary Wapiti Music Festival this week.
Keeping the health and safety of Wapiti’s musicians, artists, vendors, volunteers, sponsors and attendees in mind, the society made the difficult call in an effort to abide by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s order against mass gatherings.
Previously scheduled to run between August 7 and August 8, 2020, the Fernie based festival typically features a wide array of both emerging and established Canadian artists. This year, the festival was set to feature several bands including The Sheepdogs and Shred Kelly.
“We are hugely disappointed that we won’t be celebrating our tenth year in person, with everyone, in the Annex Park, but it has become apparent that festivals and events like Wapiti just cannot be held this summer,” said organizer and society director, Kevin McIsaac, in a press release issued on April 24, 2020.
