With one swap and one all encompassing vote, city councillors were assigned to various city committees and to act as city liaisons to community groups this week.
Chosen to be the council liaison to the Terrace Downtown Improvement Area group which taxes downtown businesses to support business growth programs, councillor Michael Prevost noted that he’s the sole proprietor for Prevost Bookkeeping which does the books for the group.
While he is not directly involved with the day to day activities of the bookkeeping service and so was not in a conflict of interest, he did want to make council aware of his connection.
Mayor Carol Leclerc said she didn’t think it was a conflict either but asked the rest of council if anyone wanted to trade the position with Prevost.
James Cordeiro suggested that since Prevost had been the city’s liaison on the Rio Tinto Alcan Public Advisory Committee previously, it would make sense for him to continue.
In return Cordeiro would then sit as the liaison to the downtown improvement group.
Prevost’s other appointments include liaison for the Northern Medical Programs Trust, liaison for the city’s leisure services department, and its housing committee.
Cordeiro will also be liaison for the Terrace-Kitimat Airport Society, the city’s public works department, and the Greater Terrace Beautification Society.
Leclerc is liaison with the city’s administration department, the healthy communities committee, Terrace Community Foundation, Northern Development Initiative Trust and an alternate on the regional district.
Sean Bujtas will be liaison with the RCMP, the public library committee, one of two city reps on the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine board and on the city’s housing committee.
Lynne Christiansen is liaison with the city’s finance department, the Terrace and District Museum Society (Heritage Park) and the second of the city two reps on the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine board.
Brian Downie is liaison with the city fire department, which includes the emergency program; the Riverboat Days Committee; Skeena Diversity Society; Kitimat Valley Institute Labour Market Partnership; and is an alternate for the regional district and the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
Stacey Tyers is liaison for educational services, which includes Coast Mountains School District 82, Northwest Community College and UNBC; the city’s development services department; Kermode Tourism Society and the city’s youth advisory committee.
