Two Terrace RCMP members were recently awarded for their hard work and dedication while posted in Terrace.
Cpl. Douglas MacFarland was recognized for his bravery and dedication in a complex child pornography case on Nov. 21. Just days prior, Terrace Cst. Angela Rabut received the 2019 Indigenous Policing Award for “E” Division North District First Nation’s Policing.
Lt.-Gov. Janet Austin and Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth presented Cpl. MacFarland with an award of valour at the 38th annual Police Honours Night at Government House in Victoria.
The award of valour is the highest award for police officers in B.C. and is awarded to officers who have exhibited exceptional courage, without regard for personal safety, in an attempt to save or protect others from harm.

Cpl. MacFarland, now posted in Newfoundland, helped to conclude a lengthy child pornography investigation, which uncovered more than 100 victims in numerous communities, and resulted in the execution of dozens of production orders, warrants, and charges. Terrace RCMP say they cannot provide further details of the investigation as the matter is still before the courts.
“The Terrace RCMP is extremely proud and pleased to see this well-deserved recognition awarded to these two members,” says Terrace Staff Sgt. Michael Robinson in a press release. “While Cpl. MacFarland has since moved on from Terrace, we’re fortunate to still feel the benefits and impact of the work he put forth during his time here.”
As for Cst. Rabut, the Indigenous Policing Award recognizes her committment to the Terrace community. Cst. Rabut left her post as the Terrace detachment’s media relations officer in 2017 to become its First Nations policing officer, where she worked to build extensive relationships with the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nations.
“She has been a fixture in the community for more than 10 years,” said Sgt. Robinson. “This is not the first award she has received during her time here and it serves as a testament to her hard work and unwavering commitment to the people of Terrace.”
