Terrace one step closer to first pot shop

  • Dec. 8, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Terrace residents can help influence whether or not a cannabis store will open up at the Skeena Mall.

The proposed BC Cannabis government-owned store would be located between Anytime Fitness and Mark’s. It would sell non-medical marijuana, marijuana products and accessories seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

The City of Terrace started amending their bylaws to allow for retail cannabis sales in June. Stores are allowed to open in select commercial zones downtown and must maintain a 100-metre distance between similar businesses, 300-metres away from schools.

A public hearing has been set for Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Comments will be taken and considered before the city makes their recommendation to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch. The LCRB can’t issue a license unless it has the support of the local government.
