Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 257 calls for service during the first week of October.
Of those calls, approximately 104 were received over the weekend, Friday Oct. 4 to midnight Oct. 6. For the month of September, Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 1,256 files.
Below are some highlights from this weekend’s calls.
Fight downtown
Police are investigating after receiving a report of an assault on Lakelse Avenue.
On Friday Oct. 4 around 1:50 a.m., Terrace RCMP responded to the 4700 block of Lakelse Avenue for two men who had been fighting. One man received injuries to his lip and eye. Police spoke with those present.
The file is still under investigation.
Two assaulted, one arrested
A man was arrested after two people were assaulted on Braun Street Saturday morning.
Around 9:20 a.m. on Oct. 5, Terrace RCMP responded to a report of a man assaulting another man and a woman. Police located and arrested a man as part of their investigation.
The man was released on a Promise to Appear in Court and other conditions. He was arrested again on Oct. 7 for breaching no-contact, no-go conditions and subsequently held for court.
Vehicles smashed in parking lot
Two vehicles were found with smashed windows on Saturday morning near the skate park.
Around 9:40 a.m., Oct. 5, Terrace RCMP responded to a report involving the vehicles on the 3300 block of Kalum Street. A car had its driver’s side window smashed and a truck had its passenger side window busted. Blood was present on the inside of the truck and both inside and outside the car.
Nothing obvious was stolen. Both owners declined having the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit assess their vehicles for evidence, opting to deal with the damage as soon as possible instead.
Impaired driving
A woman had her vehicle impounded for 30 days following a traffic stop on Substation Avenue.
Around 12:30 a.m., Saturday Oct. 5, Terrace RCMP stopped a green car after police checks indicated its owner did not have a valid license. After talking to the driver, police performed roadside breath tests which registered fail readings.
The woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act, as well as a violation ticket for no driver’s license.
Another traffic complaint led to an impaired driver being located early Sunday morning.
Around 2 a.m. on Sunday Oct. 6, Terrace RCMP responded to Hwy 16 near Kitsumkalum for a report of a man who appeared intoxicated and driving. Police located a vehicle matching the description provided and initiated a traffic stop. Roadside breath tests were administered and registered fail readings.
The vehicle’s driver received a 30-day vehicle impound and 90-day driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Sobering up with police
Approximately 14 people sobered up with police over the weekend.
On Friday Oct. 4, three men, one woman, and a youth were arrested and held in cells to sober up safely following disturbance-related calls received on the 4600 and 4700 block of Lakelse Avenue, the 4600 block of Copper River Road, and the 3200 block of Eby Street.
On Saturday Oct. 5, two women, two youths, and a man sobered up with police. They were arrested on the 2600 block of Tetrault Street, 4700 block of Lakelse, Sparks Street and Greig Avenue, the 4600 block of McConnell Avenue, and the 4300 block of Hwy 16 W.
Sunday saw four people arrested for disturbances related to intoxication. Two women and two men were arrested for their safety. One man was also found to be in breach of his release conditions and received a court date in relation to that offence.
