The first day of the new year tends to be welcomed with great excitement and a revived spirit of change — and for the Wiebe family, it was celebrated with a new baby girl.

Born at the Mills Memorial Hospital at 2:33 p.m. on Jan. 1, Terrace’s first baby of 2019 made its arrival to parents Claire and Shane Wiebe.

Yet to be named, the baby girl weighed in at eight pounds, 13 ounces.

For father Shane, he says that it’s been a tiring time coming back from the hospital, but their almost two-year-old daughter, Ava, is happy to finally have a sibling.

“Ava is very excited to have a baby sister as her new year’s present,” says Shane.

The Wiebe family requested that no photos of their newborn daughter were shared due to privacy concerns.

The first baby in the province was delivered at Fraser Health’s Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1.
