It’s that time of year again for the annual Terry Fox Run.
Participants will be gathering in Riverside Park at 9 a.m. on Sunday September 18 to show their support for the cause.
Vanderhoof resident Paul Blomberg has been organizing the run for the last five years but says it had been running for many years before that.
“There is a long history of this event happening in Vanderhoof,” he said.
“I’ve always been interested int the Terry Fox Run because I’ve always participated in it and Terry Fox is in some ways a Canadian icon for having pioneered fundrasing for cancer research,” he added.
Last year approximately 75 people signed up and over $3,000 was raised for cancer research.
The event involved walking, running or biking a planned out route which starts and ends in Riverside Park.
“It’s a good opportunity for you to get some excercise if you want – it’s not a competitive event by any means – it’s a feel good opportunity to raise funds for cancer research,” said Blomberg.
“It’s a very simple fundraising event for the community,” he added.
If you just want to donate you can do so by going down to Riverside Park on Sunday. If you would like to register you can do so on the day or you can register online at the Terry Fox website www.terryfox.org.
