Three hockey players from the Elk Valley have signed tender agreements to play for the Wausau RiverWolves in the North American 3 Hockey League’s (NA3HL) upcoming 2020-2021 season.

Fernie local, Dylan Baker, is one of the athletes who recently signed an agreement to play for the Wisconsin based team. Baker goaltended for The Fernie Academy Fury last season and made a name for himself with some notably impressive stats. The young athlete maintained a remarkable save percentage of 86.5 per cent in three games played in the North American Prospects League (NAPHL). The NAPHL is a feeder league for the NA3HL and the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Looking forward to this upcoming season, Baker strives to set a standard of hard work, resiliency, and dedication both on and off the ice. He also hopes to take The RiverWolves to the playoffs for the first time in two years. Having dreamt about playing junior level hockey for the better part of his life, Baker is thankful for the exceptional opportunity to play in the NA3HL. Aside from being excited to move to a new country, Baker looks forward to growing in a league that sets athletes up to play for college and university teams.

Chris Consolozio is another player who signed a tender agreement with The RiverWolves. Originally from Los Angeles, California, Consolozio has played with The Fury as a right wing for the past two years. Last season, the budding athlete scored an impressive 12 points in 27 games. Continuing to push his ability, he has his sights set on receiving a scholarship to play college hockey.

“This opportunity is really important to me because I love the game of hockey and I have worked for this my entire life. I also love to compete and challenge myself,” said Consolozio.

The final local player to sign with The RiverWolves is left winger Bowen Arola, a Sparwood native who played for the Elk Valley Wild his entire midget career. This past season, the gifted athlete scored 32 goals and had 15 assists in 29 games. Arola looks forward to furthering his hockey career by playing for Wausau this upcoming season.

Colin Bailey, head coach of The RiverWolves, anticipates a successful season as he looks forward to coaching a team of talented returning players and promising new recruits.

“I am very excited to have all three players join our program,” Bailey said. “I believe that each player brings with them a great attitude and from watching these players I believe all of them have immense potential. I expect all three players to make an impact with our program next season and we are able to move them on to the next level and continue their development.”
