This Sunday, January 19, The Fernie Hotel is hosting an event to raise money for the Australian bushfires that continue to tear through the country with unyielding fervour.
The event kicks off at 8 p.m. with proceeds going towards The National Australian Bushfire Fund set up by the Community Enterprise Foundation and the Salvation Army. According to event organizer Tess Arnold, “the donations to this fund are distributed to communities across Australia who have been affected by the fires to provide relief and recovery.”
In an effort to raise as much as possible, there will be a $10 cash cover at the entrance, all of which will be donated directly to the National Australian Bushfire Fund. In addition to running their regular menu, The Fernie will also be donating all proceeds from a $5 Australian Sausage Sizzle and 50/50 raffle draw. Each of the servers working on Sunday have also agreed to contribute all of their tips from that day to the cause.
“We want this night to reflect the spirit of Australian mate-ship, coming together to support each other through difficult times,” says Arnold. “We have four Australian musicians who have volunteered their time and talents to perform at the event: Isabel Enks, Charlie Roy, DJ Jim Paul and Max Thomson. We hope people enjoy the atmosphere and the music and have a dance.”
The Fernie is hoping to raise up to $2, 500 so spread the word and come join the festivities this Sunday.
