The Girl Guides organization in 100 Mile House is accepting registration for their programs, including the new Girl’s First program.
“It provides opportunities for girls to have hands-on experience and learn in a non-formal way about an array of subjects,” said Bernice Enns, a guide in the 100 Mile House chapter.
Some of those subjects include learning about the history of Girl Guides, camping, exploring identities, money sense, experimenting and creating, being well and more.
“It helps the girls become confident and helps them in their personal development as well as making a difference in the world,” said Enns, who has been a guide for roughly 25 years and in the organization for 30.
So far, Enns said they have 20 girls registered for their five branches (Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers) and have room for more in all.

Registration is all online at www.girlguides.com and is available throughout the year. Girl Guides are also looking for more leaders, mentors and team members.
“Come join us for the fun and for the experience and for getting out there and having fun and doing things with other girls and within the community and worldwide,” is Enns pitch for those on the fence about joining the Girl Guides.
Depending on their age, some girls are allowed to go on excursions to places such as Switzerland.
The Girl Guides have also relocated from the Youth Zone on Highway 97 to the Horse Lake Training Centre on Horse Lake Road.
“It’s a very good training centre with an outdoorsy area,” said Enns.
