Emma Hatcher was one of the students from Arrowview Elementary School who took to the streets to contribute to the school’s Walk of Thought.

The project is the brainchild of teacher Jodi Waters as part of her Grade 4 and 5 class Garbage Busters program. The students write environmental messages in footprints painted on the bike path at the side of the road beside the Qualicum Beach school.

“We have now completed three years of footprints, with room for one more class set of footprints next year,” she said. “Then we may need to find a new path.”

Waters noted the town has been very supportive of the project to date.

Some of that support came from the mayor himself.

“Jodi Waters is a wonderful teacher who engages her students in areas of our society that are relevant and meaningful to them both now and in the future,” said Teunis Westbroek. “The walk of thought is a good reminder that these voices of nature are counting on all of us to hear their call and do what we can to protect our environment and their future.”
